TMD Symptoms
There are many different symptoms that can be associated with TMD. Every patient is different, and can experience only a couple of symptoms or a variety of them:
Head Pain
- Forehead
- Temples
- “Migraine” type
- Sinus type
- Shooting pain up back of head
- Hair and/or scalp painful to touch
Eyes
- Pain behind eyes
- Puffiness
- Light sensitivity
- Allergies
Mouth
- Discomfort
- Limited Opening
- Can’t open/close smoothly
- Jaw deviates to one side
- Jaw locks open or closed
- Can’t find bite
- Hard to chew
- Mouth-breathing
Teeth
- Clenching, grinding
- Worn or flattened teeth
- Notching of teeth
- Loose teeth
- Sore or sensitive teeth
Tongue
- Uncontrollable movement
- Constantly biting tongue
- Constantly moving
Throat
- Hard to swallow
- Laryngitis
- Sore throat with no infection
- Frequent coughing or constant clearing of throat
- Feels like foreign object in throat constantly
Ear Problems
- Hissing, buzzing, whoosing, or ringing
- Decreased hearing
- Ear pain, ache with no infection
- Clogged, “itchy” ears
- Vertigo, dizziness
Jaw Problems
- Clicking, popping jaw joints
- Grating or grinding sounds
- Pain in cheek muscles
- Pain under chin
- Pain in joint
- Uncontrollable jaw movements
Neck Problems
- Lack of mobility
- Stiffness, hard to turn
- Tired, sore muscles
- Shoulder aches
- Back aches
- Arm and finger numbness/tingling
