About us

BruxIT was founded through a collaboration from a dentist, Dr Christopher Vernon Elliott (Bellissima Clinic), an audiologist, Isabella Fisher (Isabella Hearing) and a dental representative, James Todd.

Dr Christopher Elliott qualifed from Liverpool University in 1988. He worked as a house officer at Liverpool Hospital for 6 months before entering general practice. In 1991 he bought his own surgery in Redditch, taking it from a single chair surgery, to a multi chair practice with over 25,000 happy patients.

He has always had an interest in TMD (Temporomandibular disorder), and as part of his general dentistry he offered his patients botox treatments to stop them clenching/grinding their teeth. Research suggests around 33% of people suffer with TMD, but Vernon has always believed it is the best action to stop the root cause of TMD rather than just treat the symptoms. He has had great success with the botox injections, but it is not a permanent solution, as patients will need repeat visits when it starts to wear off.

As a result, Dr Elliott has always looked out for new innovative  treatments which could potentially help TMD sufferers.

2017 – Chance Meeting

In 2017, he met James Todd, who at the time was a dental representative for a new TMD treatment.

Dr Elliott jumped at the chance of attending a course and already had three patients in mind to have this new treatment. Within the month, he had attended the course and immediatley started to offer to his patients. Within a short time, he had already became one of the top providers in the country!

To fully offer this treatment however, he needed to work with a local audiologist who would take ear impressions for the devices to be made. Initially, James had arranged for a few mobile audiologists to support him, but was struggling for one to consistently support him.

2018 – The Final Piece

By chance, James met Isabella Fisher when he was out visiting a local dental clinic. She had just set up her hearing clinic in Knowle, and was just down the road from Dr Elliott’s clinic. It was the ideal match and allowed Dr Elliott to become one of the top providers in the country!

2019 – Tragedy Struck!

As quickly as this new treatment entered the market, it was sadly pulled just as fast. They were getting impressive results up and down the country, and it was a non-invasive option, which meant the worst that could happen, was it simply didn’t work for the patient.

No one knows why it was pulled from the market, but we know it has left an “ear shaped” hole in the TMD treatment space, which was begging to be filled.

2020 – Planting The Seed

James stayed in touch with Dr Elliott and signed him and his family up to Bellissima’s denplan scheme. At one of his check ups, a passing remark was made about how sad it was this TMD treatment had been pulled from the market….

2020 – 2021 – New Beginnings

Little did we know at the time, but this throw away remark led on to us developing a new product, which took all the positives from the other treatment, with none of the negatives. At first it started with Dr Elliott & James, but quickly Isabella was brought in for her expertise with ears.

A lot of the planning happened during the year COVID-19 struck. This meant lots of zoom (virtual) meetings. Both Dr Elliott and Isabella were busy working in their respective clinics to help their patients during such a difficult time. But we all persevered. We initially worked closely with an audiological company to develop our prototype device. We went through several iterations off the device before we started to feel like it was taking shape. Unfortunately, half way through the year, the contact at this company left and we found the new person in charge was not as receptive or quick to respond as we would of hoped. We parted ways on good terms and had a starting point for what we wanted our devices to be like.

Shortly afterwards, we approached another audiological company and they were happy to work with us, to continually develop our prototype. The device went through several more iterations before we all finally agreed we had achieved what we had set out to do.

2022 – Product Launch
